Air Strike 5 | |||
It is likely this air attack is on a tunnel complex as they were the major tactical problem the 25th Division faced. A “Tunnel Rat” school opened in Cu Chi to train men to enter them and fight. Recruiters were constantly looking for small-framed students because the enemy made entrances too small for the average sized American to enter. The Vietnamese were on average 50 pounds lighter and 5 inches shorter than we were and at first glance could be mistaken for children. This was a big mistake as they were tough and tenacious. On a dare I entered a tunnel headfirst and got just below my waist when I panicked and backed out. I am claustrophobic but fear of what might be inside that tunnel was loosening my bowels. | |||
