Air Strike 7

The wall in the lower right of this image is constructed of both families of sandbags we used. The lower brown ones are the older woven cloth type and far superior to the plastic green ones on top. Plastic replaced cloth as my tour unfolded but were not a superior choice. Cloth bags retained their shape but the plastic bags moved with shifts of their contents and could fell a stack. Rain turned the dirt to mud and they began to shift in all sorts of directions. Emptying them once they had been wet was very difficult and we were required to do this when abandoning a firebase. When I left Vietnam 8/24/69 plastic was all we were supplied.
