Christmas Tree 1 | |||
Ralph Thompson, the enlisted boss of FDC, is holding up our bunker and looking at our new plastic Christmas tree. Artificial trees were a novelty in 1968 but we got many from social groups back in the USA. Organizations sent us many packages of goodies for the holidays and most had a tree included so we put them all over the base. The canvas tarp is a rain barrier. We used a plastic sheet under the sandbags during the wet 6 months but had the tarp on top of the bags during the dry time. Both the plastic and canvas made the bunker hot and humid so during the dry times we removed them unless we could see rain. Canvas produced a odor of wet tent but stayed in place during high wind. | |||
