Black Virgin | |||
Nui Bah Dinh (the black virgin) and her small sister Nui Cal dominated the skyline throughout Tay Ninh Province. It was sacred and said to be off limits but we fired at it often and I saw many air attacks from jets and helicopters. The Army had a MARS radio complex on top and a rock crushing operation at the base but the balance was hostile country. Duty guarding the MARS operation was very desirable as it was the only place where the air cooled at night and clothing was needed for warmth. This must be a temporary location because tents rather than bunkers are used to shelter the work areas. Canvas tops were good at keeping sunlight out, moderate at keeping rain out but no good for mortars. We would be very vulnerable to ground attack with so little protection. | |||
