Christmas Tree 3

Rob Sterling looks tired. We got that way soon after arrival and stayed in a daze, caused from so little sleep. Operations were 24/7 and we stayed in the field all but 3 days of my 377. We returned to Tay Ninh base camp to eat grilled steaks and drink lots of beer. Alcohol was not allowed in the field by the 25th Division so any trip to base camp had to include lots of beer.

Three drunken battery members walked out of base camp one night and covered 6 miles of city and country and walking through a South Vietnamese Army ambush. A very angry South Vietnamese officer returned them to an even madder Captain Richard Neal. He wanted to execute them but could not find a regulation authorizing it.
