As the helicopters in the prior images departed, this large bird arrived and circled our base. War is toxic to wild animals and most learned to avoid us. Several infantrymen fired their M-16’s but the bird kept the same speed and direction. Vietnamese farmers also kept their distance to avoid being targets of opportunity.
