Jack Macrie and Martinez are taking a smoke break while posing for this picture.  Martinez was the driver for our battery commander and skilled in avoiding other jobs. He was very funny and always in good spirits. Unlike many Hispanics there, he mixed with all racial groups.

Jack hated the Army but kept that separate from his work. His family supplied him with regular food packages that he shared with his gun crew and friends throughout the battery. His people skills and competence made Jack popular with his men and other gun crews.
