Ant or termite mounds 3 feet or taller covered a large area outside this firebase. Constructed from mud they were indestructible unless pushed over by a tank or rhone plow. Many creatures lived in them but the most memorable was a black scorpion the size of a crawdad and similar in appearance. They were aggressive and I was sick for 3 days after my encounter with one.
