Our mistrust of all Vietnamese made winning hearts and minds difficult. Should the 2 ARVN soldiers manning this recoilless rifle be attacked, they could not safely retreat inside our base. They are monitoring road traffic outside our perimeter, yet are treated as potential enemy. Our infantry might leave FSB Buell 3 to defend their position but not immediately. If Americans were attacked the response would have been quick as a reflex.
